EXCITED!!!

August 10th, 2008

Hey peeps!

I just got home from a Harmon C. Yoder reunion. It was quite appropriate, despite the fact that it rained all weekend. I got to hang out a bunch w/ my cousins… GOOD TIMES!

I’m also excited because on Wednesday, a bunch of my dear cousins and I are going to NYC. This is very positive thing. We are also quite happy because Matt said he wanted to go along today, so we looked into tickets, and good times, it sounds like he’s in with us too.

I’m also looking at buying a Blackberry 8830 World Edition… this is quite exciting as well.

“Mouse, you are small, you are not good to eat, run away, that is all!”

Three days of school left! Sad and happy feelings well from deep within me!

Random-Long

July 14th, 2008

Sorry, this may contain random inspirational and non-inspirational tidbits.

We had an inspirational message yesterday. Remarkable, especially considering the fact it was translated (an excellent translator as well).

Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

1Cor 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Where do I take God’s image? What do I do with God’s body? How do I dress God’s image? When I look at myself in the mirror, do I want to bring God glory, or glory to myself? My neighbor is an image of God as well, I must treat him as one. I shouldn’t look down on the image of God. The devil likes it when I look down on other images of God.

“Girls like it when guys drive nice trucks.” -random inspirational quote

It’s a distinct desk around me. Pathway Readers line the top of the desk, like a row of dominoes, half fallen. My laptop sits before me, cluttered with a weeks worth of lesson plans. There are four stacks of flash cards, sitting orderly on my desk, three of these have pictures and look exciting, while the fourth gives the feeling to the words, “definitely sharpied”. -random description of my desk

The weekend was great, though the second part was hardly relaxing. I played vball all three nights of the weekend, for at least 2hrs a piece. Stressful, huh? The interesting part was that all three nights was a different set of kids. Friday night was teachers and evening class youth people, plus one sibling. Saturday night was teachers plus a few youth plus wedding people (spanish lookout people, uncles, aunts). Sunday night was youth, plus me (and Jodie some of the time). First two nights the prominent language was english, progressively getting more german, and the third night was basically strait german.

Now, I’m trying to get my students to write for our program on Sunday night. Promises to be uniquely difficult.

Mexicans around here have a difficult life. “You get used to hanging too, if you did it long enough.” (complements of Jodie’s grandpa). Most anything centers around the circles around here. The Mexicans work roughly 12 hour days, 5 days a week, hoeing weeds. They drive in from about 1 hour away and camp out in the middle of the pivot. They bring most of their own food along with them.

Also, there’s tons of crop dusters around.

Life Continues

July 12th, 2008

Hey folks whatsup?

One of the members of our team is gone to a wedding in IA. It feels really weird, but we still seem to talk as much-other people take her place. Last night we played some good vBall, but we had some community people come help. I don’t know how or why, but we actually convinced some of the evening class youth to help us, and one of them got their sister to help as well. GOOD TIMES!

“Stains have to start somewhere, why not tonight?” -comment heard while washing dishes

“Traditions are like stains, they have to start somewhere”-another comment regarding the potential one week of going out to eat on saturday nights.

Another random blessing for me:

I got 10hrs of sleep last night, and 3 hrs yesterday afternoon.

Another blessing for me:

I discovered that my brothers external hard drive had a lot of music from home on it, which has been a sore spot that that I don’t have any decent music here. Fixed that problem!

Next week we have a full evening english school program at church on Sunday night. This promises to be somewhat stressful, but also somewhat low-key. Either case, it’s pretty scary.

At 11:45 this morning, I had had no food for 18hrs, which is a long time for an unintentional fast. I had crackers and coke for breakfast/lunch.

BTW, most of the time I am fed quite well, so don’t worry about it too much. But THIS is a Saturday morning!

Riddle

July 7th, 2008

What is a waste container?

Answer: a belt.

Life is good-when my students are.

Have a good afternoon.

On Sunday we went to church. It was a good german service. We had a good transalator, and the message was impressive. One of the parts that struck home with me was this concept:

life without faith is a dark night.

Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Jer 1:6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
Jer 1:7 ¶But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

God has a special plan for every persons’ life, even before they are born! When we know that God wants to fulfill that plan in us, how can we keep from trusting that God will do his best to fulfill it. The darkest of night, through the faith that God has a plan for my life, begins to look insignificant!

Oh, and students don’t study well when they’re tired and grumpy.

Good afternoon!

Almost halfway!

July 4th, 2008

Hey folks!

End of the 2nd week. Things are going well. We’re surviving well. This is a good thing. Right now I’m sitting in a class by Mr. Miller regarding three point paragraphs. This is an awesome class. I only have to teach half time, and it usually isn’t even that much. I sit in the class, and do my lesson plans while Mr. Miller teaches. Afterwards we come up with lesson plans for the next day-but most of all, no responsibility! Even when I have to teach the class, there’s a lesson plan that has been made, or ok’d by Mr. Miller. These lesson plans are not complex, and for that matter, they don’t take a whole bunch of human intervention. For that matter, it’s only 1 1/4hr class, so it doesn’t take that much work. All and all, it’s an awesome class, not only because I don’t have to do extremely much, but because I get to sit and listen to teaching instead of being the teacher all the time.

(OK, that was a random paragraph just ’cause the student’s were writing 3pt paragraphs and I didn’t want to feel left out).

Go volleyball!

Some of the younger children lining up after lunch.

My beloved brother checking email. Notice he’s by the window for better wireless signal.

One of my co-teachers emailing as well.

Have a great day!

Go Mexico!

July 2nd, 2008

Great friends and neighbors!

We are having consistant internet here at school. GOOD TIMES. The only problem is that we have to be right next to the north windows to get it. :(, but at least we have it!!!!!!

I’m learning to be a teacher. This is a good thing. This is an exciting thing! This also presents some unique opportunities. Ohh, and as I’m writing this someone just pealed out across the vball court in front of our house. Umm… teaching is unique ’cause I get to hang out with kids all day long. It also shows how old I am-50min of soccer a day begins to wear on an old man, so I had to cut back.

Frequently used words around this joint: pity!, chicken., what?, what means? dad,…, play that again, (blank look), there’s 2 of each of these (meaningful looks at virgil).

The whole farming concepts around here are quite interesting. It’s in the middle of the desert, but guess what? There’s water 1500ft down! Insert irrigation wells and you can raise cotton, watermelon, wheat, alfalfa. If your cotton needs to be hoed, there’s mexicans an hour away you can hire. You can raise 50bu wheat if irrigate. Oh, land is fairly cheap-unimproved. It’s worth over 20x as much if you put in a good irrigation system and clear the land.

The whole system really is pretty good, but it’s definitely not my S.E. Kansas farmer way of thinking.

“I’ll come to your funeral. Don’t bring lilies, I hate them!”

Mexico

June 27th, 2008

I am in mexico, vacationing… over the weekend.
